Overview
Rather than relying solely on Postwire's cookies to track user identities, the Pardot to Postwire feature gives Postwire access to the Pardot API and cookies to retrieve contact information from your Pardot instance. This article provides the steps to configure the Pardot to Postwire feature.
Information
When a Postwire is shared with someone that is not in Postwire's cookies, Postwire will report that "someone" viewed it.
When the Pardot to Postwire feature is turned on, before reporting anonymous viewing, Postwire will first try to determine if the viewer has ever been in Pardot's cookies, e.g., by filling out a website form to download an eBook. If the viewer is, indeed, in Pardot's cookies, Postwire will use Pardot's cookies to access contact information. As a consequence, the Postwire activity will no longer be anonymous, and instead, it will be reported and tracked using the email address known by Pardot, or if possible, first and last name. If the viewer has never been in Pardot's cookies, Postwire will report the anonymous viewer activity using the "someone" tag.
Note: For this powerful tracking feature to work, you need to set up two CNAMEs and provide an SSL certificate to Postwire to include Postwire as an extension of Pardot's tracking; this requires your IT system administrator to work with a Postwire Support person. Send an email to support@postwire.com to request assistance for this.
Once the CNAMEs have been set up, you need to authorize access by Postwire to your Pardot instance, as explained in the Process section of this article.
Process
- Log in to Postwire.
- In the left-hand menu, under Organization, click on Tracking.
- Under the Pardot to Postwire section, enter your Pardot Email Address and Pardot Password for your administrator account in the fields provided.
- Enter your Pardot User Key in the third field (see the image above). To find your Pardot User Key:
- Click on your user at the top-right corner and select Settings. The My User Information window is displayed.
- Copy the API User Key entry and paste this into the Pardot User Key field mentioned above.
- Click on your user at the top-right corner and select Settings. The My User Information window is displayed.
- Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the Postwire Organization Pardot Tracking Settings page to save the configuration.
Confirmation
Postwire can now access the Pardot API and cookies to retrieve contact information from the customer's Pardot instance.
